2023 Mid-Summer Soirée

On July 8, 2023, the Phyllis Wheatley Board hosted our annual Mid-Summer Soirée to celebrate our 2023 scholarship recipients.

On July 8, 2023, the Phyllis Wheatley Board hosted its annual Mid-Summer Soirée to celebrate the 2023 scholarship recipients. The Phyllis Wheatley YWCA Scholarship recognizes academic and artistic achievement. This year, Phyllis Wheatley YWCA awarded scholarships to Haley Howard in the amount of $2,500 and K’yla Burns in the amount of $1,000.

Haley Howard, a graduate of the School Without Walls, presented a documentary film on the black maternal health crisis as her artistic contribution. Haley will attend Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, in the fall, where she plans to major in Health Sciences.

K’yla Burns, a graduate of Paul Public Charter High School, presented poetry selections as her artistic contribution. K’yla will attend Trinity University in Washington, DC, in the fall. She plans to major in Education.
